First Day of School

Today was complete anxiety for me. Jack was diagnosed with pink eye two days ago and wakes up with his eyes glued shut. He's supposedly not contagious because of eye drops, so I proceeded with the plan to go to school on the first day. I woke him up at 8 am and his eyes were glued shut. This followed with complete panic, and then me settling him down, and then I used washcloth to get his eyes to open. I then had to pin him down to put drops in his eyes. Not a good start to a day.

"Jack, guess what today is? Today is the first day of school." Jack responds with a hacking cough. "Mom, I can't go to school, I have a really bad cough." (He's totally faking) Keep in mind he got soccer shoes yesterday if he promised to be good about school and I gave him a watch to put in his school bag that he could open after school was over. We are not above bribery.

We get to school and things seem to be going okay. I give him a hug and a kiss goodbye and walk out the door. I walk out the door and 30 seconds later I hear my baby crying. He cried for 30 minutes. I know this because I sat in the parking lot and waited for the teacher to call me to come and get him. She called 37 minutes after I left him crying in the classroom to tell me that he had stopped crying for about 7-8 minutes. .I sat by the phone the rest of the time waiting for the phone to ring in case he needed to be picked up......Well, he did it! I showed up an hour early to pick him up, (just in case). I peeked in and he was fine, so I left him. I picked him up at the end of his class and he was as happy as can be. He loved it!!! or at least liked it! Hopefully, we'll be good from here on out.

Will is saying new words every day. He is doing great. However, he's having surgery on September 5th. His circumcision left him with random skin adhesions that he needs to have cut. He'll be going under general anesthesia for a brief period of time.

Today when we came home, I carried Will inside and Jack followed. I asked Jack to go back and close the door to the garage. His response, "What do I look like? Your maid. Well, I'm not you know. " Kids!!!

August 3

Steve has officially had his first week with the new job. The kids and I have been busy all week with playdates and swimming. We can't wait until Steve gets home tomorrow.

Jack has been pretty tolerant of me talking about him going to school, until tonight he freaked out on me. The only thing that could calm him down, is I told him that on the school playground, he could race his friends. He said, "Mom, I am the fastest boy ever, and they won't be able to beat me." Then, he wouldn't stop laughing. Weird kid! He's been running the Siesta Key Fun Run every Tuesday which is 1 mile on the beach. You should see how proud he is at the end of his run. Then says, "Let's go to the Daquiri Deck."

Will is the sweetest boy ever! Everything about him is just so sweet! He blows kisses to everyone everytime he leaves a room. It just makes you want kiss those squishable cheeks! I'm looking forward to having some one on one time with him once Jack (hopefully) starts school in a couple of weeks. Will is getting great on his feet and at 171/2 months has about 8 words.

Will and Jack spend much of their day playing hockey together, which leads to a lot of fights. Jack hits the puck and then Will grabs his shirt and tries to throw him to the ground so Will can get to the puck next. Then Will just mucks at the puck. He is a tough little kid.

So, Jack starts school tomorrow. We had our open house last night and it went really well. Except for the fact that all of the kids sat and listened to the teacher read "The kissing hand" and Jack announced, "I do not want to listen to this lady read a story. I think I'll just play with the trucks." Stood up and walked over to the trucks. Say a prayer for me.
